So close to the end and for me graduating with my Bachelor's Degree in Health Sciences. Finally, the end is in sight and I can take a breather and help take care of my mother who was just diagnosed with breast cancer.
This course has offered so many different techniques to better our mental health and well-being. The two that have worked the best for me was the loving kindness and the one this week in the text by Dacher which used visualization. Normally I struggle with visualization, but this week Dacher made it possible. I laid down and had my husband read it out loud to me, after I read it to myself. This seemed to really work and I think it will be so helpful to use in my daily life (minus my husband reading it). This exercise really helped relax me and minimize my stress. The loving kindness exercise made me really focus on someone else and their pain. After doing this exercise again it meant so much more to me. I was visualizing my mom the second time I did this exercise and it really opened my eyes. I think this exercise is amazing and works so good!
At the beginning of this course I had a really hard time with any type of meditation or relaxing technique, now I think they are awesome and will use them at least a couple of times a week. I think that everyone can benefit from any of the techniques we used in this class.

Hello Heather,
ReplyDeleteI think this whole class workouts have helped me realize so much about myself. I have recently been taking a look into myself and trying to understand who I am and who I have become. i think that was the goal all along of this class, was to begin to see who we all our to ourselves. Good post!

Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteI too felt that the recent visualization was useful from the Dacher text. That’s nice that your husband was able to read it aloud to you. I have to read and commit the techniques to memory then proceed. Which is not such a bad thing being able to engage into a session on my own when it is needed. I’m excited for you to be at your end of your degree plan. What is learned with this course will probably come into use while caring for your mother. As you say, there are a lot of practices we came across that will come in handy for many.
Ron.

ReplyDeleteI too had a rough time in the beginning with this whole meditation thing. I put a stigma on meditation my whole life and thought that it was only for the 'weird' people. Boy was I wrong! Now I can see all along that I was the weird one who wouldn't give it a shot. I realize now that I could have used these techniques many times throughout my life. I guess it is better to learn them a little late rather than never at all. I am sorry to hear about your mother. I am sure she is very lucky to have you as her caregiver. Maybe you could teach her some of these techniques that we have learned. It may help her along her journey ahead.
