Hello all and welcome to my blog. I hope you all enjoy reading my posts each week!
Honestly, every time I try and do one of these relaxation exercise it makes me laugh. When I was pregnant with my first child my dad decided he wanted to be my coach. We could not attend lamaze classes, but we did get a binder that had all different types of techniques to help calm you down during the labor process. One of them was very similar to a lot of these relaxation techniques I have heard. My dad tried so hard to read the script in the book and say it in a calm way and it reminds me of the way the man sounds in this one, and every other one I have heard, so it makes me laugh and think of my dad.
I had to listen to this exercise in my Managing Stress class also. I have a really hard time with these, like I said they make me laugh. The music was very soothing and reminded me of the music you would hear while getting a massage. I have tried this technique on many different occasions and cannot seem to get really relaxed. I wish this stuff relaxed me, but unfortunately it does not :( Comparing my muscles to wet sponges just doesn't do it for me...

LOL! I love that your dad helped you in trying to relax, that is very sweet. He sounds a lot like my dad in that he tries hard to be helpful and supportive but sometimes to no avail. I too didn't get much out of this relaxation exercise because is simply creeped me out. Some of the comparisons they used were just weird and all of the talk about blood and muscles left me uneasy. Not exactly what I want to hear when trying to ease my anxiety. Have you found any methods that help you to relieve stress?
ReplyDeleteJennifer, The only thing I have found that works for me is just sitting in the quiet and clearing my mind. This does not always work for me though because my mind goes a thousand miles a minute. Exercise helps me to relax, but only when I can do it without my children lol.
